Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

How can I search for a newly added surname?

When you are doing family history research, you will often be researching particular surnames. The GPR has now added a new feature to its main search routine that allows users to list the results in the date they were added to the resource.

If you are looking for a specific surname then use the surname search. If you input the surname then the listing will give all the names within the GPR that have that surnamename. It will also list all the GPR maiden and family names that also contain that surnamename.

Family names are those surnames that are found as the last name of someones forenames. This was a common practice in the 1800's.

The last column displayed by this search routine is the date the entry was added to the GPR. However, please note that this column will only be displayed if you are using a wide enough screen (greater than 1300 pixels). Thus, it is unlikely to be displayed on a small smart mobile phone.

To display the names in date added order, simple click on the date added column title.

Please note that cemeteries added before 2011 do not have the date when they were added to the GPR database.
