55ColeJohn Cole1793881881no image24077811 John was a farmer at Luttongate, Sutton St. Edmund, where he occupied Pear Tree House, firstly as a tenant of the Rev. John Taylor and later, from 17th July 1843, as owner. He was still farming there in 1876, but in 1888 the occupant is recorded as Robert Cole - doubtless his son, Robert (1830 - 1904). The property remained in the names of John's two trustees, his eldest son, William of Thorney Dyke (Earl's Farm) and his half - brother Thomas, until 1882 when it was purchased from them by James Cole, (1836 - 1927) third son of John and Jane. The family connection with Pear Tree House Farm was maintained by Walter (1875 - 1959), John's grandson, and continued to 8th November, 1919 when it was sold to John Jones of Sutton St. Edmund. Jane remained at the farm until her death on 27th June, 1901 at the age of 96.
